In Dr. Lisa Aiken’s tenth book on Judaism she tackles the first book in Judaism, Genesis. The stories from Genesis are familiar to many of us from childhood, yet, they seem dated or irrelevant in the twenty-first century. In Genesis: The Untold Story, Dr. Aiken and Ira Michaels show us that by putting aside our childhood conceptions and looking at the stories of Genesis with a more sophisticated eye we can find a logical and mature view of God and His plan for us.
Lisa Aiken was born in Baltimore, Maryland. She received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Loyola University of Chicago. She was the Chief Psychologist of Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City and has had a private psychotherapy practice with individuals and couples for more than 25 years.
Dr. Aiken is listed in thirteen Who's Who books, and has lectured on a wide range of Jewish topics for diverse audiences in more than 150 cities worldwide. She is the acclaimed author of nine books on Jewish topics. She is also a licensed Israeli tour guide.
Ira Michaels was born in Brooklyn, New York. He received his Ph.D. in physical chemistry from MIT and his M.D. from the University of Miami. He has been a cardiac anesthesiologist for 30 years and currently works at Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem. He has published numerous articles in medical and scientific journals.
Aiken and Michaels illuminate the stories of Genesis using traditional Jewish commentaries, history, science, and psychology, they trace the Biblical narrative through the book of Genesis, finding morals and spiritual lessons in events as large as Creation and as seemingly insignificant as an argument between two people.
Genesis: The Untold Story revisits passages we once dismissed as simplistic or irrelevant and shows how they teach vital lessons about God, and how best to connect to Him and to those around us. Its unique melding of factual knowledge with Biblical events leaves us with indispensable insights into our purpose in life and how we can get the most out of it.
With Aiken and Michaels as our guides the stories of Genesis can be used just as they were originally intended: to inform our lives as we change and grow wiser. Genesis: The Untold Story show us how to use the Bible as a relevant guide to living in the modern world.
