7 Tips to Stay Healthy for Scuba Diving

November 21, 2007

Ways to avoid getting sick and keeping you healthy for great diving.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) November 21, 2007 -- 1. Hit the Gym – Most fit people do not get sick as often as unfit people. By exercising and taking care of your body, your immune system can fight any bugs that decide to come around.

2. Eat the Right Grub – Eating healthy foods and avoiding excessive fats can keep your body beautiful and immune and other systems on track. If travelling to scuba dive, beware of uncooked vegetables and fruits washed with local waters. Make sure your food was properly prepared to avoid any e-coli bacteria.

3. Night, Night, Baby – Get your rest. This is an important point because when you lack in sleep, your immune system starts to break down allowing for the bugs to attack your system. Get plenty of rest.

4. Drop the Booze – You don’t have to cut out the alcohol consumption completely, but reduce your alcohol consumption. The scuba diving risk of alcohol consumption is dehydration which may predispose you to DCS and other scuba related illnesses. Alcohol lowers your immune system which allows other critters to pay a visit to you.

5. Soap, Scrub, Rinse – Wash your hands. This is a simple rule, yet most people neglect it. Wash your hands after handling money, after diving, after using the restroom, before and after eating and periodically throughout the day. When you wash your hands, you reduce the likelihood of spreading germs. There are many antibacterial gels out there to help when you can’t get to a restroom to wash your hands.

6. Evian Please – Keeping hydrated while diving is important, but don’t drink the local tap water especially when diving outside the US. Drink bottled or purified water instead. The water going through the taps do not need to be cleaned. Don’t drink water when taking a shower. Use bottled water when brushing your teeth. (Trust me, I didn’t follow my own advice once and paid the price!)

7. STOP – Use precautions. If you are starting to feel under the weather, take it easy. Listen to your body. The more aware you are with your body, the faster you can fight any sickness. Avoid places and people who are sick and take special precautions to keep you healthy.

The “Secret” to staying healthy is to avoid catching a cold.
