United States of America (Press Release) November 26, 2007 --
September 28, 2008 - Boulder. CO – Jeffrey Mix and Katherine Homes, residents of Boulder, CO, announce the release of Sasha and Mishoo: Little Yoga Warriors, the first of a series of “green” yoga books for children. In a time when more and more children are being influenced by media and technology and are over-stimulated and over-scheduled, Jeffrey and Katherine hope to encourage children to strengthen their minds and quiet their bodies through the world of yoga. They strive to raise awareness of other cultures and the importance of saving our shared environment.
The Little Yoga Warriors project is based on the desire to educate children and to generate respect for the natural environment so future generations will grow up knowing the same natural beauty we know. Committed to creating a product that is environmentally friendly, Jeffrey and Katherine chose to self-publish in order to work with companies who are actively involved in this vision. For this groundbreaking yoga book for kids, they chose an eco-conscious printing company, Monroe Litho, and EPA Green Power Partner operating on 100% renewable, non-polluting Wind Power, to publish the book on 100% PCW paper using vegetable-based ink.
They both believe that by introducing such terms as “green”, “recycled” and “wind power” at an early age, children will learn to connect to their bodies and their environment. Little Yoga Warrior's mission is to inspire personal growth, physical well-being, and an enhanced awareness of cultural diversity and the natural environment within children worldwide," said Jeffrey Mix, author. "Our guiding principle is to communicate with children in a ‘language’ they understand, the language of story and pictures."
This first book of a planned Little Yoga Warriors series is set amidst the colorful and diverse landscapes of India. Sasha and her little brother, Mishoo, are searching for their little kitty, Chakra, who followed a passing Yogi into the wild. Along the way, the two children are confronted either by nature's obstacles or animals, and the only way they can continue on is by holding a certain yoga pose that will help them overcome the obstacle. The children and the readers must stop and hold the pose for ten big breaths before they can turn the page.
With vibrant and traditional Indian hand drawn illustrations lighting up each page, the story will be a treat for eyes as well as the body. Completely interactive, parent and child can work together through the series of yoga poses until they have found their Chakra.
Designed for children 4-9, the book ($18.95) can be ordered directly at www.littleyogawarriors.com and will be available in the very near future through Amazon. For more information please visit www.littleyogawarriors.com or contact Liz Chatfield, liz@chatfieldpr.com, 203-421-8494.
