United States of America (Press Release) November 27, 2007 --
Miami, Florida – November 2007 – Dr. Nestor de la Cruz-Munoz - Medical Director for Bariatric Surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center, Cedars Medical Center, and Hialeah Hospital and head of the Surgical Weight Loss Institute - is proud to be hosting the first-ever conference focused entirely on metabolic surgery, The Metabolic Surgery Summit, on January 12, 2008 at Mount Sinai Medical Center. Prominent doctors from all over the country will be joining Dr. de la Cruz-Munoz in presenting a wide range of topics affecting Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome, including bariatric surgery results, potential mechanisms, novel approaches and research trials.
“There has been a noticeable lack of information available to doctors – particularly for medical specialists dealing with diabetes, obesity and metabolic syndrome – concerning the state of research for new metabolically active surgical procedures,” says Dr de la Cruz-Munoz, founder of the Metabolic Surgery Summit. “My hope is to fill that void by hosting this Metabolic Surgery Summit on an annual basis and I am honored to have such incredible physicians joining me on our inaugural year.”
The one-day summit is designed to present the growing evidence of bariatric surgery as a metabolic surgery and present the current research supporting this data. The educational objectives for the participating doctors include: recognizing the healthcare significance of diabetes and metabolic syndrome, identifying patients that meet the current NIH criteria for bariatric surgery, defining the proposed metabolic effects of bariatric surgery, and describing the differences in the current proposed metabolic surgeries.
The cost to attend the course is $150. Registration deadline is December 12, 2007. For more information on how to register, please visit www.metabolicsummit.com.
