United States of America (Press Release) December 1, 2007 --
The competition was hot, and so were the competitors.
Brazil premiered into the skateboard world with three slalom events on November 20th. One of two levels of skating events, the Basic, took place at the recently-repaved Interlagos São Paulo race track. Two American skaters, Jason “Racer X” Mitchell and Barrett “Chicken” Deck helped kick off this event along with Brazilian skaters Rogerio “Sammy” Noguiera and Tiago Gardenal Ratos. Thirty-six other skateboarders had the privilege to participate in this historic event for the Brazilian Skateboard community.
Jason Mitchell, one of the best slalom skateboarders, does not save praise when speaking of the Interlagos Racetrack. “It’s one of those special places. It is surprising" said Jason, moments before an unlucky longboarder skidded of the Curve of Laranjinha, one of track’s curves. With other competitors of the 1st Great Prêmio Brasil of Skate, Jason tested the track the previous day. Praises remained for the level of the performance of the Brazilian skateboarders and for the asphalt flat of the race track, where Formula 1 races take place in Brazil.
Barred Deck also liked the idea of organizing a skateboard race on a race track. “It’s insane, very cool”, he affirmed. “São Paulo is an interesting place; we also visited the Museum of Ipiranga. It’s one of the best places I found to do some skating and slalom”.
Rogério “Sammy” said “I thank God for having the privilege of helping to organize and to participate in an event of this magnitude. While the core of the world’s greatest skateboarders were present, friendship, happiness, and the solidarity took care of the atmosphere. Participation in this event will stay with us for the rest of our lives. I’d like to also thank sponsors Skateboard 4 life and Getmea-Skateboard.com. They set me up with the necessary equipment to participate in this event.”
This event marks the first of many Brazil will offer in 2008. Lasting impressions of the event should attract additional international skateboarders. The Old School community invites all slalom riders of the world to come and show off their skateboarding skills.
