United States of America (Press Release) December 1, 2007 --
Astoria, OR. Dec. 1, 2007.
NW Limited...History in Vogue has chosen Jamestown, Virginia's quadricentennial of May 14, 2007 to include in its exclusive line. Four hundred years prior, Capt. John Smith and 102 men arrived and chose the location to found the Jamestown Settlement. Virginia's colonial capital was subsequently earned there through great hardship and sacrifice. These original settlers and their perseverance are symbolic to our nation. In fitting tribute, William D Brooks III of NW Limited began with an historic rendition of the settlement, "Captain John Smith's Map of Virginia" which was first published in Oxford, England in 1612. The original is kept at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. Each framed, matted map available through NW Limited bears two "Settlement of Jamestown" stamps issued by the USPS to commemorate the 400th anniversary. The first day of issue postmarks, available for just thirty days, are displayed along with the stamps, turning the piece into an extremely limited, unusual collectible.
Brooks' business, originally known as NW Columbia Map Company, was inspired by another auspicious historical event. A map featuring the Lewis and Clark Expedition of 1804-1806 and it's bicentennial celebration, stamps and postmarks was his first release. It was natural to include Jamestown's four-hundred year anniversary for its historic precedent and importance to our country's heritage. There will only be 66 of the maps available, one of which graces the US Post Office at Williamsburg, VA. Every NW Limited...History in Vogue piece, including the Jamestown Map, is exclusively made in the USA.
