United States of America (Press Release) December 6, 2007 --
Second Life superstar singer/songwriter Hep Shepherd, the online alter ego of New York City-based musician Jeff Krantz, will release his first real-world single by distributing it for free in Second Life. The release will take place on Dec. 10 through billboards around Second Life as well as the Hep Loft (Krantz's own virtual fan store). Residents will be taken to a Web page where they can download the MP3 of the single "Last Goodbye" at no charge.
"My friends and fans are extraordinarily generous and know that in order to pursue a dream. You need money to survive," says Shepherd. "They have all taken very good care of me, and the free single is the only way I can think of giving something back."
Shepherd says after playing over 150 shows, he now gets offers of up to L$10,000 for an hour set and the exposure he has received performing in Second Life has helped launch his real life music career.
"I've been approached by several major labels, however, I decided to release his first single and album on my own," says Shepherd. "My fan base is now into the thousands so I decided to launch my own promotion and management team and am even performing real life shows in New York City."
Shepherd says that even when he finds major real life success in the music business, Second Life will always be a part of his career. He will not sign with any record label who does not respect the importance of his Second Life fan base.
