DETROIT, MICHIGAN December 11, 2007- Considered the highest paid Black male model in the world, Tyson Beckford, who currently hosts the television car series "Fine Tuned," has joined a star-studded lineup of presenters for the 12th Annual Urban Wheel Awards (UWA). The spectacular event will take place on January 15, 2008 at the majestic Fox Theatre in Detroit. The Urban Wheels Awards, known as the Academy Awards of the automotive industry, will pay tribute to those pioneering automotive industry leaders who transcend the mainstream and embrace diversity to create and improve products and services that appeal to a larger customer base.
The only forum to recognize the top African American, Asian and Latino executives in the automotive and ancillary industries, the UWA will also include A-list entertainment, industry leaders and Hollywood celebrities presenting the UWA awards to the winners in the 12 categories. With a theme this year of "Fashion, Stars & Cars," the 2008 UWA will be an evening to remember.
Tyson Beckford, who is of Jamaican ancestry, became a household name when he became the main model for the fashion house of Ralph Lauren. Having graced countless billboards, been featured in numerous ads, and strutted down catwalks world wide, Mr. Beckford most recently branched out as the host of a new car series entitled "Fine Tuned" on the Speed Channel. Mr. Beckford has also appeared in a number of films and television shows, including the just-completed films "Kings of The Evening" in which he co-stars with Lynn Whitfield and Glynn Turman and "Hotel California", which he co-produced.
"Since our theme this year is Fashion, Stars and Cars, Tyson Beckford epitomizes each aspect--he's a top fashion model, a star, and hosts his own car show on TV," says UWA creator Randi Payton, CEO/Founder of On Wheels Inc.
