Australia, Commonwealth of (Press Release) December 12, 2007 --
We're putting the spotlight on fine woodworking!
Studio Furniture 2008opens at Bungendore, NSW, Australia Day, 2008
Studio furniture makers around Australia have competed to take part in an exhibition that opens on Australia Day, Jan 26, 2008.
A niche magazine for fine woodworkers (Australian Wood Review) and a gallery (Bungendore Wood Works Gallery) have sought out the best makers to create a landmark exhibition. BWWG are sponsoring $10,000 in cash awards.
Sublimely made furniture from precious Australian timbers (long undervalued) will feature. Some works are highly sculptural: chairs that resemble people, a table made from venetian blind offcuts, a cabinet called "Cecilia O'Flannery"...
These works highlight the makers' skill and originality and demonstrate the highest value usage of the world's dwindling resource of rare and precious timbers.
High quality images are available and interviews with the makers can be arranged.
