United Kingdom of Great Britain & N. Ireland (Press Release) December 14, 2007 --
London (Online-unsecured-loans) December 12, 2007: According to a study by the Standard Life Bank, many consumers across the UK resort to borrowing money in order to secure their desired lifestyles. The study concluded that young people feel the social pressure to keep up with the peers around them.
The credit-hungry culture in the UK is strengthening among the young people. Credit Action, a national money education charity, says that an average consumer borrowing through credit cards, motor and retail finance deals, overdrafts and unsecured personal loans was £4,678 per average UK adult at the end of October 2007.
Commenting on the credit culture in the UK, the chief executive of the Standard Life Bank said: "Consumer attitudes to credit and borrowing have changed dramatically over the last few years. Credit is not only freely available but considered a way of financing lifestyles rather than reflecting need."
According to Apacs, the UK's payments association, credit card spending in the UK is likely to reach £11.7 billion during December 2007. The Christmas season and New Year eve are the main reasons behind this spending. Apart from credit cards, people also take personal loans to fund their Christmas expenses.
