United States of America (Press Release) December 23, 2007 --
Icarus, Cat Galaxy's Program Director was rushed to the hospital on Saturday morning due to a blockage of his urethra which occurred during the night. He's currently spending his birthday today recovering at Four Peak's Animal Clinic in Scottsdale where Dr. Aubrey Pruitt performed a common procedure of using a catheter to unblock the urinary tract which got plugged up due to too many crystals forming. Blood was also found in the urinary tract but is expected to be cleared out along with the crystals. According to Dr. Pruitt, Icarus did remove the catheter which had to be put back in as a second blockage had formed.
"He's a tough cat and the real challenge for him is when he gets home," said Dr. Pruitt of Four Peaks.
Icarus is expected to be released in a couple of days but his sisters Isis and Jade are already feeling a bit sad that he's not at home with them. One re-assurance is that he's getting the best care possible.
"We all miss Icarus and it seems very empty around here without him. He couldn't be in better hands than with Dr. Pruitt and the staff at Four Peaks. They really care about every one of their patients and are great about giving their humans updates. We can't wait for Icarus to return home," said Nohl Rosen, the station's human spokesperson and parent to all 3 of the cats.
Icarus was currently being treated with antibiotics for a urinary tract infection which is very common in male cats and sometimes a blockage does happen regardless of treatment. Signs of a UTI include straining when using the litterbox, yowling or crying when urinating, and urination in places other than the litterbox. If you suspect a UTI then contact your veterinarian as soon as possible so the proper tests can be done. If you suspect a blockage (where no urine is being produced when the cat is using the litterbox) then get them to the vet right away.
Cat Galaxy is asking that all it's listeners and viewers keep Icarus in their thoughts for a safe and speedy recovery.
