United States of America (Press Release) December 27, 2007 --
TORONTO, December 6, 2007 - Auctionwire online auction agency has launched the first-ever worldwide online auction of an eco-home called project7ten on eBay, starting on December 15, 2007 at 9:PM PST (USA) and ending January 14, 2008 at 9: PM PST. The starting auction price of $2.85 million may sound like a lot of “GREEN”, but the buyer will actually get a lot more “GREEN” than one would expect. One of only a few LEED Platinum Certified homes in the country (the highest rating of a “green” nature of a building), project7ten was built to serve as an educational model that creates a forum for smart discussion about environmental awareness. The buyer will get a free 18-month lease on a Ford Escape Hybrid.
This new, fully-furnished eco-home is located in ultra-hip Venice, California where many celebrities live. Builder Tom Schey, environmentalist Kelly Meyer, and designer Melinda Gray (of Grey Matter Architecture) recently completed project7ten as one of the most environmentally friendly homes in California. Featured in the “Enlightened Development” exhibition at Los Angeles’ Architecture and Design Museum and it was open for educational tours before being put on the market. The benefits of solar panels highlighted by actor/activist Ian McKellen coupled with the viewing of Al Gore’s film “An Inconvenient Truth” spearheaded Tom Schey to develop project7ten.
Project7ten is so eco-hip that celebs like Cindy Crawford, Pierce Brosnan, John Cusack, David Duchovny, Tobey Maguire, Laird Hamilton, Gabrielle Reece, Kevin Connolly, Esai Morales, Laura Dern, and Josie Maran and Ed Begley Jr. have checked it out, with many attending the house opening party.
The home uses solar panels, high-performance windows and insulation, and recycled and renewable materials. Green features include a rainwater reclamation system and grey water recycling, locally-sourced sustainable materials, recycled content countertops and insulation, FSC-certified lumber, rooftop solar panels, native landscaping for shading, Energy Star appliances, and Kohler water-efficient fixtures.
A portion of the sale of project7ten is being donated to Healthy Child Healthy World (HCHW), an organization dedicated to educating the public about environmental toxins that affect children’s health. For more information on this auction visit: www.auctionwire.com/project7ten
