On Thursday, January 10 from noon until 1 PM OPEN will host the first Brown Bag discussion of 2008 at Cube Space (622 SE Grand Avenue, Portland). Mike Riley will be presenting on Promoting Behavioral Change. The discussion covers the use of research techniques for measuring public opinion and the steps necessary for impacting change. Key topics and case histories involve driving the adoption of environmentally responsible behavior will be discussed. This presentation was originally presented to the North Pacific Regional Conference of the Public Relations Society of America in San Francisco. Mike Riley is the Research Director of Riley Research (RileyResearch.com) and is a graduate of Oregon State University. His background is in quantitative study design, and all phases and techniques of qualitative studies. Additionally, Mike is past-President of the Oregon Chapter of the American Marketing Association. On January 30th, OPEN will host a one-day SPSS Syntax training. SPSS is a statistical software package which is used by many research analysts and program evaluators (SPSS.com). The Syntax training day will be $425 for OPEN members and $525 for non-members. OPEN memberships are $25 per year and can be purchased at OregonEval.org. There are no student rates for this training. This one-day course covers many aspects of using the Syntax language on which SPSS is based. The course introduces the rules of SPSS Syntax, how to build syntax commands as well as transformation programming in syntax and trouble shooting problems. Attendees will learn the rules of SPSS syntax, how to generate, write and modify syntax, and how syntax is used to facilitate repeated SPSS analyses and perform operations not available through SPSS dialog boxes.
On February 22, OPEN will host a training on SAS. SAS is a statistical software package used by many program evaluators and research analysts. The trainer will be Renu Gehring, who is an independent SAS consultant and a Certified Advanced Programmer for SAS. She also is the Chair of the Portland SAS Users Group. Attendees can attend either one, two, three, or all four days. Experienced SAS user may only want to attend the Advanced Topics days. Day one will be an Introductory Topics course, Day two an Intermediate Topics course, and Days three and four will be Advanced Topics.
