United States of America (Press Release) December 31, 2007 --
Small cities seem to always get left behind. A new website, http://www.smallcityusa.com has just launched and is hoping to change all of that.
SmallCityUSA is focused on small cities. According to the owner most websites seem to think a small city is anyplace with a population of 100,000 people. What about the Real Small cities? The cities with only one stop light shared by the entire county, or the cities that you miss if you blink, these “wide spots in the road” are the cities they are promoting. The real small cities of America are the ones that have a maximum population of 9,000. (Most of them are much less).
There are over 23,000 of these cities that meet this criterion. This is “Where Everybody Lives”.
The goal is to have a site where every small city is listed. This has turned out to be harder than it sounds. Since, a large number of these small cities share their zip code with other neighboring small cities; many of them are not listed in any one place. For this reason, there is a form on the website for anyone to send in the names of any missing small cities.
Every small city has an FREE Event Calendar to list all community and non-profit events.
This includes yard sales, garage sales, auctions, family reunions, sidewalk sales, car shows, county fairs, concerts, church services and anything else that will bring people into the community. The calendar has an option to leave comments about the event. Also, there is a forum where people can get together and ask questions about community events or just plain meet other people with similar interests.
Presently the site is supported through Google AdSense™, and some affiliate banners. They have a unique banner section that they call “Shop & Rate”. It allows shoppers to see how others rate their experience with the banner site before they go to it.
Hopes and dreams are that in the future the site can generate revenue through local business advertising. When that goal is achieved they plan on donating a percentage back into the communities.
SmallCityUSA is asking for any pictures and videos of small cities so that they may be shared with everyone.
