Famed Cartoonist to Appear At Booksmith San Francisco
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) January 3, 2008 --
January 2, 2008 – Oakland, CA – Cartoonist, Lloyd Dangle, will present a slideshow talk, sharing insights and anecdotes from his career drawing the satirical comic strip, Troubletown, which celebrates its twenty-year anniversary this year.
Syndicated in dozens of cities, Troubletown enjoys a devoted "Dangled" following, especially in San Francisco, where it first appeared in the SF Bay Guardian and has run continuously since 1988. Dangle has been oft-cited as a new breed of satirist whose astute commentary and mastery of the comics medium makes him THE funniest cartoonist working in the alternative press.
Dangle will be signing copies of his newest Troubletown collection, “Troubletown Told You So, Comics That Could’ve Saved Us from this Mess,” that takes aim at topics like the war, terror, ethics, consumerism, religion, 9-11, and corporate greed in what is destined to become the definitive account of the George Dubya Bush Years.
"This book captures the current situation in America, a moment that will go down in history as our country’s most boneheaded, says Dangle, “and crude comics full of insults and nasty takedowns are the only fitting way to explain it."
Matt Groenig said, "Troubletown by Lloyd Dangle is terrific" and Dan Savage said, "Thank God, there's at least one person out there who can clearly see the lies and the malice and he's still got a sense of humor." About.com ranked “Troubletown Told You So” number two in its top ten list of political humor books, and the Department of Homeland Security puts anyone who reads it on the no-fly list.
In addition to his comics tome, Dangle recently illustrated, “The Ten Minute Activist, Easy Ways to Take Back the Planet,” by the Mission Collective, and “Political Suckers,” real lollipops that taste great and feature your favorite politicians on the boxes! George Bush’s cinnamon sucker is, “So strong it’s nukular!” Dangle’s collaborators will be in attendance as well.
Lloyd's work as a cartoonist and illustrator have been featured in over 100 leading publications including American Lawyer, San Francisco Chronicle, Mother Jones, Motorbooty, The Nation, The New York Times, Outside, Time Magazine, Utne Reader, Village Voice and Wired.
Lloyd was also the first cartoonist assigned to cover the Republican Convention armed only with a drawing pen and blank sketchbook. Normally he works out of his converted garage in Oakland, California and in addition to cartooning for newspapers and magazines he is the creator of the funny pictures on the package for Airborne, the number-one-selling cold remedy in Dangle's words, "the history of the universe."
Dangle's speaking engagements have been described as entertainingly weird and inspirational, and his captivating wit and humor are applicable in almost every setting (except when he’s being waterboarded, when he totally clams up.)
Dangle can be booked through his publicist, Nettie Hartsock, who can be reached at nettie@nettiehartsock.com or 512-396-1067. Reviewer copies and requests for interviews can also be made through Nettie.
