World Book day is now the biggest annual event promoting the enjoyment of books and reading in the UK and Ireland.World Book Day 2008 in the UK and Ireland will take place on Thursday 6th March however most other countries hold World Book Day on 23rd April every year.
A main aim of World Book Day is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own. To support this aim, a Schools’ Pack full of ideas and activities, display material and more information about how to get involved in World Book Day will be mailed to schools (including those secondary schools that have specially registered to participate) from mid-January 2008.So if your school hasn't registered yet make sure they do and don't miss out on the fun, which is what reading is all about.On World Book Day, 6th March 2008, ten new Quick Reads will be published from Chris Ryan, Josephine Cox, Gordon Ramsay, Gilda O’Neill, Adele Parks, Colin Jackson, Scott Quinnell and John Bird. There’s also a collection of short stories, RaW Stories of Hardship and Hope from BBC RaW, edited by Vanessa Felz, and a brand-new Doctor Who book.
