Gettysburg author to release book on Robert E. Lee's birthday

Lee’s birthday, as the release date for her debut book, SHADES OF GRAY: A Novel of the Civil War in Virginia. (Patriot Press)
Jessica James, a former newspaper editor, says she chose to recognize the famous Confederate general’s birthday because of his strong moral convictions, integrity, and duty to God and country.

“He was a great general, a great man, and a great Christian role model,” she said. “I would like to focus the nation’s attention on the traditions and principles that were once such a vital part of our society. Those are the qualities that I try to bring to life in Shades of Gray.”
The novel takes readers on a journey across the rolling hills of northern Virginia in an epic love story that is capturing national attention.
Civil War author Virginia Morton calls the novel “an incredible achievement and a treasure,” while Foreword Magazine notes that James “captures the pure essence of the war that nearly tore the heart out of the United States.”

The book follows a Confederate cavalry commander and a Union spy as they defend their beliefs, their country, and their honor.
