Professional Turf Products based in Euless Texas, purchased an abandoned lumberyard to convert into a new distribution center last year. Unfortunately it was already occupied by thousands of pest birds, from starlings to pigeons. Each year hundreds of abandoned buildings in urban areas are taken over by pest birds. It’s common for pest birds to use these properties as homes; they provide shelter, protection and warmth. Removing large numbers of birds and the debris they leave behind can be an expensive undertaking. Businesses spend thousands of dollars each year cleaning up after urban pest birds.

Chip Erler, warehouse manager for Professional Turf Products says they first tried to trap and relocate the birds. Erler says, “ It was a big job and we were not sure if it would work!” After removing the larger pigeons, the smaller starlings decided to move in and created an even bigger mess. Not sure what to do about the starlings, Erler turned to Bird-B-Gone, Inc., a company that specializes in manufacturing safe and humane products to control pest birds. Erler called Bird-B-Gone and explained his situation to a sales specialist, who recommended a sound deterrent product called the Bird Chase SuperSonic. The SuperSonic plays distress calls and predator calls of over 22 species of birds to scare pest birds away from areas they are roosting in. Bruce Donoho, owner of Bird-B-Gone, Inc. says, “When birds hear their species specific distress calls and the calls of predators, they naturally are alerted to danger and move on.”

The birds did move on. Erler says, “I was amazed with the results! After about a week the starlings began to leave!” The front entrance to the building was a favorite spot for the birds and they were now all gone. “I am very impressed with just how effective the Bird Chase SuperSonic is at scaring away pest birds!” said Erler of the unit. Professional Turf Products was then able to develop the property as a new distribution center without worrying about the expense and hazards of pest birds and the debris they leave behind.

Each year commercial property owners spend thousands of dollars cleaning up after and repairing the damage caused by urban pest birds. To find out more information on safe and humane products to deter pest birds contact Bird-B-Gone, Inc. at 1-800-392-6915.
