Home Safety Site Saves Lives and Money

Safe At Home, Intl, a division of Brickhouse of NY, Inc, introduces a general member community that provides critical information on “protecting you and yours in and from your home™.”

“More people are injured at home, oftentimes with more serious injuries, than at work,” states Randy DeVaul, co-founder of Safe At Home, Intl and 25-year safety professional and emergency services instructor. “Many of these injuries are a result of hidden and sometimes common hazards located in and around the home that we don’t see or we ignore.”

Safe At Home™ (www.safeathome-online.com) provides the information needed to stay safe. Safe At Home™ membership also offers safety checklists to help members qualify for home insurance discounts. Often, the discount provided by an insurance carrier for following these safety points is greater than the annual Safe At Home™ membership.

By joining Safe At Home™ members become part of a national home safety movement. For only $36 annually, members of Safe At Home™ may begin to experience savings in both costs and injuries. Participating in the member referral program can provide free months toward the next year’s membership costs.

The concept for Safe At Home™ began with a safety column by the same name. DeVaul began writing the column in August 2004. “There was a need that simply was not being met for families,” says DeVaul. “Trade publications and safety professionals were talking about getting the ‘safety message’ home to employees, but there was no direct access to do that.”

Then, DeVaul spoke to a friend and IT professional to discuss the idea of creating a home safety organization focused on injury prevention. The seed was planted for Safe At Home, Intl.

Safe At Home, Intl established the last Monday through Friday of August as its annual ‘Safe At Home Week,’ which for 2008 will be August 25-29. Formally accepted by Chase’s 2008 Calendar of Events, the week emphasizes safety in and around the home to eliminate senseless yet life-altering home-related injuries.
