United Kingdom of Great Britain & N. Ireland (Press Release) January 22, 2008 --
OMNiBRIDGE, a TeliMatrix company (JSE: MIX) and a global leader in fleet management solutions, today announced that Barlows UK Limited, a major electrical contractor, will be upgrading to OMNiBRIDGE’s wireless fleet management system, FM Communicator with FM-Web, across their entire fleet of 180 vehicles.
Barlows first implemented OMNiBRIDGE’s fleet management system using a “DECT method” (Digital Electronic Cordless Technology) of transferring data, which required vehicles to drive past a box in a central point in order to access the recorded data. The solution provided Barlows with detailed historical data such as driver behaviour, distance driven and fuel consumption. The data provided in reports was used to identify bad driving behaviour such as over-speeding, over-revving and harsh-braking and attribute it to specific drivers, as well as report on fuel consumption for specific routes. The company was then able to use this information to take measures to reduce fuel costs and increase driver safety. This solution achieved an ROI for Barlows within the first 6 months by reducing fuel costs by 5% and accident rates by 10%.
The initial success and proven benefits of the OMNiBRIDGE fleet management system have motivated Barlows to upgrade to a wireless solution across the entire fleet of 180 vehicles in order to have real-time access to all data from any vehicle within their fleet regardless of location. With real-time access to data, Barlows will now be able to receive notifications in real-time of driver violations, and check vehicle status and location of vehicles via mobile phone and e-mail. Access to data in real-time will now enable corrective action to be taken against bad driver behaviour and inefficient use of assets sooner and more frequently to reduce accident rates and fuel consumption even further.
“OMNiBRIDGE’s scalability has made upgrades to the latest technology easy. There has never been a need to change vehicle kits. This gave us the flexibility to start small and upgrade to more feature-rich solutions as our requirements grew,” says Rob Lewis, Technical Services Manager at Barlows UK.
