United States of America (Press Release) January 23, 2008 --
Hudson, Wisconsin, May 1, 2007- In the profession of design, green is no longer just a color choice. It is an option for helping the environment that 13thirtyone Design LLP, a small graphic and website design company, has decided to offer its clients. "It's a way for businesses to continue to communicate with their customers, while limiting the impact their promotional materials has on our environment," says Angela Ferraro-Fanning, owner of 13thirtyone.
In "going green" clients have the choice of using recycled papers with high levels of post-consumer content. These paper types require less physical space in landfills and utilize little water and energy. Client materials can also be printed at "green printers"- locations where soy or vegetable based inks are used as an alternative to petroleum based, which have been linked to cancer and birth defects. "Prices for green printing are very comparable to that of a typical printer," states Ferraro-Fanning.
For those clients who are more web-based than print oriented, Ferraro-Fanning says it's important to push those initiatives even further. "If a company can eliminate their use of paper and ink almost all together, that's even better. Using e-mail marketing campaigns instead of direct mail is a great way to still get the message out, save a little cash and be eco-friendly."
According to several publications, major companies such as IBM, Coca-Cola and McDonald's are making an effort to produce their materials from more renewable resources. Ferraro-Fanning adds, "It's all about educating clients and offering them options they may not have known they had."
