They’re gettin’ down back-alley style at the gym tonight.

It’s not easy to attend a good old-fashioned fistfight anymore. The heyday of boxing seems to have passed, replaced with various Cobra Kai graduates kicking, pulling, and wrestling each other into submission. About the only time you see two guys standing toe-to-toe throwing punches, they’re in a poorly lit bar, drunk on too much whiskey, and the cops are on the scene before the fight gets into full gear.
Trolling bars hoping for a fight isn’t a great idea, and instigating one is even sillier. Thankfully there are still genuine practitioners of the sweet science of boxing. Normandy Gym is the place in South Florida to see the best amateur boxers duke it out for a chance to advance to the Olympic trials. Tickets to the appropriately named Back Alley Turf Wars #2 start at $10.

This bigger and better version of the Original Back Alley Turf Wars #1 has grown into quite an event. Sponsors have joined Danny Hawk and the Normandy Gym staff to Guarantee a Top-Notch boxing event. This being a Regional Open Event For Men & Women, means that boxers from the Gold Coast of Florida from the Keys to Ft Pierce will be competing to advance to represent Florida in Georgia coming up next month. Food, Fun, & Prizes will add to the enjoyment of the spectators. The weigh-in is at 1pm, then the boxers get their pre-bout physical at 2:30pm and the bouts begin at 4pm. There should be between 15 and 20 bouts which means the Event will end around 11pm. The Sponsors, Tremont Towing, Access Tools, Pirates Bait & Tackle, GimmeShelter.com, Finnegan's River, Tew-Cardenas Attorneys, The Bail Bond Firm, Nico Builders, Beach Bar-B-Que, and Silver Paint & Hardware will have offers, discounts, and giveaways for all in attendance.
