United States of America (Press Release) January 24, 2008 --
Fort Bragg, CA, January 24, 2008
Out of over 300,000 "lenses", Are You Polar Bear Aware? is one of 11 website finalists for Lens of the Year, 2007, on Squidoo.
Frankie Kangas, who created the site with polar bear facts, pictures, videos, and related links is a sculptor with a soft spot for the big white bears. The website is dedicated to raising awareness and money to save polar bears with the proceeds derived from the Squidoo lens donated to the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) for the preservation of polar bears.
"Global warming, oil exploration, big game hunters -- these all negatively affect the polar bear population", commented Ms. Kangas.
"The purpose of this lens has been to raise money to help save Polar Bears from extinction while helping more people become Polar Bear Aware. It's a tremendous honor for my site to be nominated for Squidoo's Lens of the Year and another opportunity for the public to learn about the polar bears' plight".
Are You Polar Bear Aware? won two other awards in 2007. In April, it was named Lens of the Day by Squidoo and in May it took 2nd place in content in the People's Choice Award.
Kangas researches, writes about, or sculpts polar bears daily. In the past year alone, she developed 4 websites about polar bears. She has several sites on Squidoo; created a Polar Bear News blog; and recently joined forces with David Booth of Cabin Fever Art to create a polar bear cartoon site (www.cartoons.polarbearnews.com).
