United States of America (Press Release) January 24, 2008 --
Negative perceptions of the current state of the US economy, combined with fears of a recession, fanned daily by the media have created a general downtrend in sales of Beads and other "discretionary" items. This trend exists in all venues. A review of sentiment across all of the various "bead" forums bares this out. One need only ask: How are your sales doing on xxx? Generally speaking, the answer is the same. There are of course, exceptions. We have several sellers having their best season yet. Most, however, see a slow down.
In addition to the negative perceptions of our economy, we have just completed a Holiday Season that typically sees a downturn in online bead sales as part of a normal cyclical annual pattern. Add an election year into the mix and you have the ingredients for a difficult period in the Beading community.
The good news is that JustBeads.com is actually experiencing an increase in new registrations, Page views, Page Hits, and bandwidth being used. People are STILL very much interested in our market! This is a clear indication, that as perceptions of the economy improve, so too, will sales of beads.
