Kraychir Gains Congressional Appointment to Attend West Point
Twentynine Palms high school senior Trent Kraychir has been awarded a congressional appointment to attend the prestigious United States Military Academy at West Point.
Kraychir gained his appointment for his academic and athletic accomplishments. He has a 3.86 unweighted GPA and is ranked 7th in his class at Twentynine Palms high school. Kraychir scored exceptionally well on the ACT exam, achieving 98th percentile on the writing assessment, 97th percentile in geometry and trigonometry, 96th percentile in reading, and 92nd percentile in science nationally.
Nevertheless, these good grades and scores were not enough, Kraychir also excelled in athletics. Kraychir attained a hammer throw mark of 224’4” at the end of the 2007 outdoor track and field season, which ranked him first among all junior high school hammer throwers nationally.
After hearing of his award Kraychir said, “I am grateful to congressman Jerry Lewis and his staff, the United States Military Academy administration and staff, and all the teachers and administrators at Twentynine Palms high school for their trust in me, I won’t let them down.”
Kraychir continued, “Furthermore, I want to thank Cook County State’s Attorney Dick Devine from Chicago, Twentynine Palms high school counselor Mr. Roger Johnson, English teacher Ms. Kimberly Holzhauer and Ray and Eva Kinsman for their wonderful letters of recommendation, which certainly helped my effort to gain this rare appointment.”
Trent Kraychir will leave within days of graduating from Twentynine Palms high school, where he will go to New York for his initial induction and military training. After completing his four years of study, Kraychir will be required to complete five years of active military service as a United States army officer. While attending the academy, Kraychir will also throw the hammer for the West Point track and field program.
“For several years now, it has been a dream of mine to become a Black Night at West Point.” Kraychir continued, “Consequently, I can now relax a little and enjoy my last few months at home before embarking on my newest and perhaps most enduring undertaking.”
