United States of America (Press Release) January 28, 2008 --
Unicorn Ventures reportedly released a report concerning the effect that rising heating oil prices will have on US residents this winter. According to a report, Unicorn Ventures researchers estimated that average spending on home heating this winter will rise by an average of 20%, driven by the substantial increases in heating-oil prices.
Heating oil is a petroleum product used by many Americans to heat their homes, and historically, US heating oil prices have fluctuated from year to year and month to month, generally being higher during the winter months when demand is higher. This winter however, Unicorn Ventures apparently feel that, because distillate fuel inventories are low, there is cause for consumer concern regarding the potential for higher than usual prices.
According to a source, Unicorn Ventures spokesmen said that, in order to understand the reasons for these price variations, consumers need to understand how heating oil is used as well as where and how it is produced. Of the 107 million households in the United States, approximately 8.1 million use heating oil as their main heating fuel.
