EXTREME LOADING TECHNOLOGY CHANGES THE KNOWN BUILT WORLD – ASI Announces 1st Release of ELS Software

January 28, 2008

ASI releases ELS Software, a technological breakthrough in collapse, seismic, & blast analysis where failure and material separation is important in designing buildings, bridges and other structures.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) January 28, 2008 -- Raleigh, NC, January 2008 – Continuing with its tradition of outstanding innovations in the analysis of progressive collapse, Applied Science International (ASI), a subsidiary of The Steel Network, is proud to announce the first release of its Extreme Loading® for Structures (ELS) software. Based on the Applied Element Method (AEM) this groundbreaking technology has been designed to analyze and simulate material separation and all stages of progressive collapse in a form that can be visualized and understood by engineers and non-engineers alike.

What is truly revolutionary is that ELS does not require a super-computer and a team of PhD’s to generate its output. Rather, it has been developed to be run on a stand alone PC or laptop by a qualified engineer trained in its use. With an ability to both predict progressive collapse (whether due to blast, earthquake, hurricane force wind, or projectile from a debris field) or to analyze the cause after such an event, ELS is proving itself to be an invaluable tool.

Edward diGirolamo, ASI CEO commented, “We wanted to put the real power of ELS in the hands of practicing engineers, and now we’re ready. Our advanced engineering software is easy to learn and quickly put to use on existing work. If clients want to see the outcome of the ‘what if’ scenario as part of a vulnerability assessment or other structural analysis, ELS is the tool you need.”

Developed as a result of over a decade of research in the field, ELS is at the heart of the technology employed for the prediction of the recent demolition of the Stubbs Tower in Savannah on December 15th and the historic Charlotte Coliseum on June 3rd of 2007. In fact, it is the only technology that can digitally illustrate the global collapse of a structure in 3D full motion video. Applied Science International was also featured as the cover story in Homeland Defense Journal in July of ’07 and as a special report available on their website.

Tried and tested in the field, engineers using ELS can successfully model structures composed of steel, concrete, masonry, and glass, and then provide all of the information needed to allow decision makers to act with confidence. ASI applies their one of a kind technology to vulnerability and physical security assessment, forensics, demolition and structural analysis of buildings, bridges, and monuments.

“The real story is not the demolition of historic buildings like the Stubbs Tower or the Coliseum; it is about a technology that is capable of predicting the effects of extreme loads in a way never before seen. It is about, as we say at ASI, changing the known built world, and we are deploying this incredible technology today,” concluded diGirolamo.
