Central Florida Institute Gains Grant for Sonography Program

Established in 2005, the SUCCEED, Florida! Grant Program was designed to face head-on the extreme shortage of what are deemed crucial professionals in the Florida workforce. One of those schools deemed crucial in the medical field is Central Florida Institute.

Central Florida Institute became one of the 21 community colleges and medical training schools to receive the 2007-08 SUCCEED, Florida! Grants and one of only two private, for-profit schools to receive a grant.

Central Florida Institute consists of two campuses, one in Palm Harbor, Florida near Tampa and the other in Orlando, Florida. This professional medical and dental training school has a two-year program at which students can attain their Applied Science Associates Degree as an Advanced Cardiovascular Technologist, Invasive Cardiovascular Technologist or Surgical Technologist, or Degree for a career as a Polysomnographic Technologist, Noninvasive Cardiovascular Technician, Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, Medical Assistant/X-Ray or Dental Assistant.

A total of $7,278,971 was awarded throughout the state for crucial professionals in the allied health career area. Central Florida Institute in Orlando received a $287,534 expansion grant for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program currently offered, and Central Florida Institute in Palm Harbor received a $150,000 continuation grant for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. The money will be used to make advancements to the program regarding equipment, classroom supplies, teaching aides, salaries, professional development and the hiring of a Program Development Specialist.
