United States of America (Press Release) January 30, 2008 --
Late in 1999 Lindsay Thayer Stroker found an idea, originating from Canada, and believed it to be a potential stroke of genius. It was a melted wine bottle, melted flat and used for serving …cheese, crackers, grapes or anything that is served with wine. Imagine, utilizing recycled wine bottles into a unique and practical gift idea?
Taking this idea forward, she started a small business (www.vineyard-designs.com). Lindsay went directly to many well known, national wineries and received permission to allow Vineyard Designs use their wine labels on her new products. She chose the most popular, creative and whimsical wine labels she could find and then developed a technique, incorporating wine labels into the melted wine bottles. They were called “Wine Bottle ‘Cheese Boards’. (Years later, one will find hundreds of different names for cheese boards and hundreds of web sites selling these). The Wine Cheese Board was then custom gift boxed, a grape knife was included and an informative brochure was created.
Working out of her dining room, Lindsay packed her cheese boards in suitcases and large boxes and traveled across the country entering all the best gift shows from LA & San Fran, Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta and New York. The gift industry is constantly searching for new gifts to offer their retail customers. The Wine Bottle Cheese Board became the most innovative gift idea of the decade. At the end of the year, Vineyard Designs moved out of Lindsay’s house into a small building and grew from 1 person to eight, and as many as 20 part time.
Within two years, Vineyard Designs shipped to over 2500 gift boutiques across the country. Lindsay also developed business with larger retailers, At Home, Treasure Island, Von Maur, Marshall Fields, Hallmarks, Caswell-Massey, as well as colleges, casinos, museums, wineries, hardware stores and home and gardens. Vineyard Designs was a vendor for two years at Nordstrom shipping to 68 of their stores. By virtue of the variety of stores where the Wine Bottle Cheese Board could be found, it truly was and continues to be, the most unusual, practical, recycled, and personalized gift of our new century!
