United States of America (Press Release) January 30, 2008 --
January 31, 2008 Long Beach, California In what will surely be a surprising announcement after a final hearing in the courtroom of Judge Jesse Rodriguez at the Long Beach courthouse, Attorney Todd Krauss will announce plans to take further legal action under consideration against Long Beach Animal Control as well as plans to submit a request for an investigation by the US Attorney General’s Office regarding the trial of Alex Kirkland and Gloria Ramos of Noah’s Ark Animal Rescue including what may be potential obstruction of justice during the trial.
Former staff members, volunteers and supporters are all demanding reform of Long Beach Animal Control for what they all believe are illegal actions regarding not only the animals seized during an August 23, 2006 raid of Noah’s Ark, but also in conjunction with what they suspect is an ongoing pattern of animal cruelty and misconduct by animal control officers, in particular Lt. Michelle Quigley, which possibly makes Long Beach Animal Control one of the most deadly shelters in the southland. Local pet owners may want to join in the legal action when they learn that their pets may have been killed in an untimely manner and then reported to them as being found dead.
Both Kirkland and Ramos will be filing appeals on the felony counts for which they were convicted. The appeal is based on the mounds of evidence that the trial court would not allow to be entered into record, which Krauss believes is a serious miscarriage of justice with regard to the defense of Kirkland and Ramos, as well as the prevented of testimony from witnesses by the court that Krauss believes kept the truth of this case from coming to light.
The safa of Noah’s Ark has garnered national and even international attention among animal lovers and the rescue community. A group of supporters called the Noah’s Ark Animal Justice Committee, formed immediately after Noah’s Ark was raided to try to save and protect the animals, maintains a blog detailing many of the facts of the case at www.najustice.blogspot.com . The blog is the opinion of the supporters of this case and is often written with great passion, but the details of the case are clearly outlined from start to finish.
Attorney Todd Krauss is available for comments and interviews by calling (818) 344-4000. Interviews with Ramos and Kirkland may be arranged through Krauss as well. Attorney Ken Lewis may also be contacted at (213) 624-4904 regarding further potential legal action. The Long Beach Courthouse is located at 333 Ocean Avenue in Long Beach California. A restitution hearing is on the docket for 8:30 AM. Krauss will be speaking in front of the courthouse at the close of the hearing.
