United States of America (Press Release) February 4, 2008 --
SALT LAKE CITY – The Young Professional Caucus of the Young Democrats of Utah (YDU) announced today that they will host a Super Tuesday Results Party at Canella’s in Salt Lake City on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at 6:30pm. Canella’s is located at 204 E 500 S, SLC. The College Caucus of YDU will also host a Super Tuesday Watch Party at BYU in room 445 of the MARB at 8:00pm. The College Caucus party is free; YDU has a suggested donation of $5 for the party at Canella’s.
Organizers expect this results party to be extra-exciting versus year’s previous: "Super Tuesday will be an electrifying night to share with my fellow Utah Young Democrats. We have two great candidates this year, so no matter who wins, we will have a presidential nominee that all Democrats can support," says Bianca Shreeve, treasurer of YDU. Adds Megan Risbon, co-chair of the Young Professionals Caucus and secretary of the Utah State Democratic Party: "For the first time in my voting life, my vote for a Democratic Presidential candidate will actually matter in Utah. I'm excited we have two excellent Democratic candidates to choose from and I know tomorrow's elections will be exciting down to the nail-biting finish."
YDU guarantees a great party at both the Cannella’s party hosted by the Young Professional Caucus, and at the BYU party, hosted by the College Caucus. “With 23 states up for grabs, come check out who makes the cut! Even if you can't stay long and no matter who you're rooting for, stop by for some food or a drink and join in the fun,” states Jen Jankowski, co-chair of the Young Professionals Caucus.
The Young Democrats of Utah is committed to creating programs and events that excite young people about the political process. According to Matt Lyon, president of YDU, "Young people have been turning out in record numbers across the nation. YDU hopes to help organize and assist young people in Utah to get engaged with the 2008 presidential primary.” Adds vice-president Curtis Haring, “it’s exactly this type wild party/witnessing-of-a-serious event that demonstrates how the Young Democrats of Utah are committed to getting youth involved in politics.”
The two YDU Results Parties are just part of the ‘Young Voter Revolution’ that is sweeping the country this primary season. 80% off all young voters in Iowa cacused for a Democratic candidate. This high margin is echoed in other early voting states: 61% of young voters in New Hampshire voted for a Democrat, 62% voted for a Democrat in South Carolina, and in Nevada, young voters supported Democrats by a 3:1 margin. The YDU Results Parties on February 5th are just the beginning of the so-called ‘Young Voter Revolution’ in Utah: “The primary season is just the beginning. The ‘oung Voter Revolution will continue into November and young people will be the margin of victory for Democrats up and down the ticket. Already, 2008 proves that the increased youth turnout in 2004 and 2006 and young voter’s overwhelming preference for the Democratic Party is an ongoing trend, not a fluke,” concludes Lyon. The Young Democrats of Utah are managed by a board of ten-ish people. Known for their charming wit, political genius, stunning good looks, and intellectual sarcasm, this group of high school leaders, college students, and young professionals are often grossly unaware of the way others perceive them. None the matter, each year the Young Democrats of Utah work hard to create programs and events that excite young people about the political process. Through social events, volunteer activities, and political activism, all members of YDU strive to take a bite out of the elephant, one district at a time! We hope you will join our revolution!
