United States of America (Press Release) February 5, 2008 --
Los Algodones Baja California Mexico remains a hostile place to visit or shop. An American Resident while waiting in line to cross back over the border to California was pulled from his vehicle at gunpoint, falsely accused of driving a stolen vehicle and handcuffed and mercilessly beaten while horrified tourists fearfully looked on.
Vehicle registration papers were produced by the owner to prove the ownership, yet the Policia stated they didnt care and proceeded to imprision him after being taken to a back road at gunpoint and further brutalized.
Freedom from being imprisoned was only obtained after a horrific 24 hour stay in the fecus and urine stenced cell when a Kangeroo court including a Mexican judge and lawyer demanded payment of $200.00 to "make this all go away"... Money was plundered from his wallet, a cell phone stolen from the car, and the car itself; a 1994 Blue Oldsmobile Cutless Supreme was impounded. The fee of $400.00 are being demanded to un-impound the car.
Tourists are not safe in Los Algodones despite the promise from Mexicalli to protect them. Corruption and Police brutality still abound in Los Algodones.
In contacting the Mexican Embassy in Yuma Arizona, it was stated that there is nothing that they can do.
Be aware of Los Algodones, the mecca of corruption, drug trafficking, human smuggling and Police brutality.
Names of the Police involved are under investigation at this time.
