CHARITY LAUNCHES VIRAL GAME TO HELP YOUNG PEOPLE MANAGE MONEY
Young people in the UK are being taught to manage their money by throwing dog poo at their enemies, thanks to a new viral game from online charity YouthNet, for its guide to life for 16-24 year olds, TheSite.org.
TheSite.org provides straight-forward facts, advice and support on key issues affecting young people, to around 500,000 unique users per month. The game ‘Turf War’ has been designed to drive more young people to its money section, which offers information on everything from budgeting to bailiffs.
YouthNet Chief Executive Fiona Dawe says: “Money is an increasingly important issue for young people, but a difficult topic to make interesting.
“With Turf War we’re using a mechanic that is relevant and entertaining, allowing us to engage with young people and help them develop this essential life skill.”
To succeed, players must use their funds wisely to buy the best weapons, balance a budget to make sure they don’t end up out of pocket and out of ammo, and visit the TheSite.org’s money articles to find secret words for extra weapons.
Turf War has been developed by digital marketing agency Kerb with funding from the Peter De Haan Charitable Trust.
Kerb Creative Director, Jim McNiven, says: “We have a strong history of successful viral campaigns aimed at educating young people. The key to a successful viral game is great game play and a sense of humour - and this one definitely has both.”
To play Turf War visit www.TheSite.org/turfwar.
