Press Release announces the upcoming musical Back Home Where De Banana Tree Grows

Marcia P. Samuels brings to the stage a musical stage play that is sure to uplift. The story centers around the memories of her childhood days spent in St. Thomas, a small backwoods village on the southeastern end of Jamaica.
The story comes alive with humor, tearful moments and many song and dance numbers. The sight and sounds of the Caribbean come to life on stage. This is a feel good, smile on your face, feet tapping, fingers snapping kind of play. The audience may even sing along as talented singers bellow out familiar songs such as Day O, Yellow Bird Up High In Banana Tree and Sweet, Sweet, Sweet Jamaica.
And for those who are from the Island, childhood memories are sure to come alive in their minds, as they listen and watch the song/ dance performance of Lang Time Gal Me Neva See You.
The sounds of the past and present will intermingle with some new songs such as: Came From Many But Now We Are One, Jamaica Is De Land I Love, Precious Memories, and Back Home Where De Banana Tree Grows.
And of course what would a play about Marcia’s life be without Church and those familiar hymns, such as What A Friend We Have in Jesus and Precious Lord Take My Hand
Marcia has cleverly crafted the dialogue by keeping the familiar Jamaican dialect, Patois (Broken English), but making the dialogue comprehensive so that everyone will be able to understand the characters spoken words. As well as an array of colorful costumes, the stage will come alive with original painted or on location photograph backdrops.
“Back Home Where De Banana Tree Grows is who I am,” says Marcia. “People often ask me where I got my writing talent from, and of course we know all gifts comes from God, but also interwoven in that is that I am the product of my environment. That environment for me has always been St. Thomas, Jamaica. I don’t know why, it just has.”
A speech given by Marcia’s character sums up her feelings for the one place she feels she was always at home:
