On the 16th of JANUARY 2008 outside the Tate Modern, Nathalie Dubreu improvised her dance in a 15 min performance reflecting on Louise Bourgeois’ work “Maman”.
In this urban setting, between the legs of Louise Bourgeois’ spider sculpture, Nathalie created a sculptural/physical work particular to her, with slow movement, extended body and a body vector approach.
With the rhythmic bells of the Tate exhibition “illumination”; she explored her connection with ‘Maman’, which intrinsically brought her to her feminine psyche, communicating beyond the verbal. She let Louise Bourgeois’ artwork “Maman’ infuse in her, physically investing her emotions and unconscious mind.
‘I am looking for the threads that unite me to this piece and to the woman artist. Gigantic- would this be the amplitude of my movements? Underneath, I feel a dangerous crushing sensation and yet at the same time, protected. Linking creative acts in movement, weaving with the ‘web’, the thread, the one between her and I, the one between us all, and to each other. How to ‘WebLink’ with the audience?
The long legs resting on tiny points, are they analogous to a Gothic arch, to a sacred place? Is this a place for ritual?’
It was an opportunity for Nathalie Dubreu to investigate alienation in the exploration of the self, the changing body of womanhood, the mind/body fragment of motherhood and the universal story of Woman. Is the spider/woman the creator of the universe?
A video will be soon available on www.dailymotion.com/nathaliedubreu,
Based on these journeys, Nathalie Dubreu would like to invite women, anyone, any age, any shape, of any fitness level for a participatory explorative performance of ‘themselves’ .
Taking a moment, on International Women’s day, 8th of March 2008, to connect with their true self, and silently share a woman’s union, feel the strength and power to be with other women. As the infinity symbol ‘8’, women will physically explore their own spiral of life, the inner spiral creator of the universe that is inside us all. You will be able to improvise your own feminine dance, listening to your body and discovering places within your mind/body connection.
This piece will take place (depending on the weather) at Potters Fields Park in SE1, in front of ‘AMENO’ coffee (the dark wooden café). From 3 pm onwards, Nathalie Dubreu will be there, moving, waiting, feeling, connecting. To recognise her, she will wear a white faux fur coat. Please wear comfortable clothing and join us for a different free experience, no obligation, no technical prerequisite, just be you, creating your own inspired life.
Leave your obligations aside for a moment and ask yourself about the depth of your existence, reclaim your dreams and desires, let your inner voice speak.
