Australia, Commonwealth of (Press Release) February 19, 2008 --
At a time when golf is enjoying more success than ever before, it would come us a shock to many to hear that some are beginning to fear its demise.
‘Something needs to be done about the current situation, or golf will cease to enjoy the level of growth it has achieved over the last 10 years’ says the author of No More Gimmicks! Intelligent Golf Technique (http://professionalgolfswing.blogspot.com) ‘If history has taught us anything, it’s that the consumer will only take so much, before they begin to look elsewhere.’ The writer, who chooses to call himself Michael, would seem at first to be a bit crazy, but on closer inspection we see he may actually be on to something.
In a sport that has had enormous popularity since the 1500’s, there does seem to be an incredible amount of gimmicky merchandise, practice tools, and no limit to fashionable apparel, especially when compared to other sports. One only needs to go into their local sports store to see what I mean. In the golf section you will find numerous tools to improve your accuracy, power and timing. Compare this to the soccer section, for example, where you will find various brands of shoes and balls, but not much else. So why do the big sporting companies spend so much more time and money on merchandise for golf, than for other sports?
‘Well there are two key reasons.’ Says Michael. ‘The first is enormous growth in numbers playing golf in China and the US. Companies know that the best way to insure profit growth is to target an ever-growing number of people. The second reason is that statistically, golfers make considerably more money that none golfers. According to the National Golf Foundation the average household income of golfers has in some years been as mush as $16,000 more than the average U.S. household. And so you can see that as a consumer, the golfer is a perfect target for the big business trying to make millions of dollars. As so hundreds of products, books, and gadgets are manufactured, most of which are completely rubbish!’
So how does the amateur golfer tell what is useful and what is rubbish? ‘I’ll admit, it can be really hard. We are compiling a list of no-nonsense industry reviews of products that we have found to help our golfers. I have described a product I believe to be the best on the market at http://professionalgolfswing.blogspot.com. I also suggest people visit WWW.IMPROVEMYGOLFSTROKE.COM for information about the correct way to swing a club.
