Jazz stylist Paulette Dozier in “Thoroughly Modern Millie”
Known for her work as a recording artist, jazz stylist Paulette Dozier re-enters the theater to take on the role of Muzzy Van Hossmere in Richard Morris’, “Thoroughly Modern Millie.” Following a lineup of successful musicals staged at the Broward Stage Door Theatre in Coral Springs, FL, this show will run February 22nd - March 30th, 2008.
Director Dan Kelly, who has staged a string of winning shows at BSDT including the hilarious “La Cage Aux Folles” (in which he starred and Ms. Dozier played the classy restaurateur, Jacqueline), has cast Paulette as the elegant, sophisticated nightclub singer, Muzzy Van Hossmere.
The character, originally played by Sheryl Lee Ralph on Broadway, is described as a cross between Pearl Bailey and Josephine Baker; not much of a stretch for Dozier because of her own zany stage persona and elegance that she naturally brings to the table. Additionally, Paulette’s bold voice is a true reflection of the outgoing personality of diva songstress, Muzzy, who definitely commands her stage as does Dozier.
Jazz lovers who’ll hear Paulette for the first time, will enjoy the rich sound that she conveys.
