The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle to Feature Alexander Fiterstein
Award-Winning Clarinetist to Perform at March 16 Concert

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (February 27, 2008) – Lorenzo Muti, artistic director and conductor for The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle, announces today that the orchestra’s March 16 concert will feature a performance by award-winning clarinetist Alexander Fiterstein. The 3 p.m. concert will be held at the Carolina Theatre in Durham.

The concert will consist of Fiterstein as soloist in performances of Gerald Finzi’s “Clarinet Concerto” and Max Bruch’s “Concerto for Clarinet and Viola.” In addition, the orchestra will perform Ottorino Respighi’s “Ancient Aires and Dances, Suite II.”

“Alexander Fiterstein combines great technical skill with a warm and easy going presence.” says Muti. “It is a pleasure to work with him for a third time. Alexander’s talent is sure to capture the admiration of our audience.”

Fiterstein is a first-prize winner of the Carl Nielson International Clarinet Competition and the Young Concert Artists International Auditions. He has performed with The Vienna Chamber Orchestra, The Israel Chamber Orchestra and the China National Symphony Orchestra, among others. In addition to his performance schedule, Fiterstein has given educational residencies throughout the United States and Europe.

“I am thrilled to be back to perform with the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle,” says Fiterstein. “I appreciate the quality and energy Lorenzo and the orchestra members bring to each performance.”

To emphasize its commitment to engaging young people with great classical music, the orchestra provides free seating at every concert to students of all ages.
