United States of America (Press Release) March 1, 2008 --
WINONA, MN--In an open letter published in the weblog "The Exaggerator," blogger "IludiumPhosdex" is asking conservative talkback radio and TV hosts to please account for any payments they may be receiving from lobbying and other groups to influence the content of their programmes.
The request calls upon conservative radio and TV commentators to:
*explain any "cash-for-comments" setups they or their producers have with conservative lobbying organisations for "winning of hearts and minds" purposes on their programmes;
*how much in payments are so received, and how often; and
*what precludes their explaining such arrangements to the public, especially as such raises questions of payola designed to influence program content.
"Phosdex" cites as precedent an Australian scandal a few years back involving a Sydney radio station whose talkback-show hosts were caught failing to disclose to listeners payments received from industry and other organisations to influence programme content.
