JCAHO’s Sentinel Event Alert, issued in July 2004, suggested that improved patient outcomes and reduced risk in labor and delivery care can occur through expanded staff training and communication, improved fetal monitoring and the availability of prenatal information. Today’s labor and delivery systems seek to provide clinicians with better tools for documentation and communication to meet those objectives. How well are those solutions hitting the mark?
In its 2008 Labor and Delivery report, KLAS investigates current Labor and Delivery (L&D) solutions in the marketplace. Which vendors are making the most progress toward system integration? What functionality is most important to providers, and how satisfied are healthcare providers with current vendor offerings?
With 43 percent of providers indicating they still lack basic ADT interfaces, providers continue to search for solutions that will integrate with their clinical information systems. Respondents provided insight to vendor strengths and weaknesses through their ratings and commentary. The report further identifies the benefits providers have achieved since implementation, highlights missing functionality, categorizes vendor performance by number of annual deliveries and relays provider advice for selecting and implementing an L&D solution.
