Phoenix– Connie Cornelius, Sales Manager of Open Road Tours, was a presenter at the 2008 American Indian Country Tourism Conference in Indio, CA. The conference focused on maximizing tourism promotion to Indian country while preserving the native culture and history of these areas.
This three-day conference specialized in offering professional training in marketing, advertising, tourism and cultural and historic preservation. Cornelius spoke about the importance of training tour guides and their impact on increasing visitor satisfaction. Other conference presenters for the conference included: Mark Brown of the US Department of Commerce Office of Travel & Tourism Industries; Deana Jackson of the Radisson Fort McDowell Resort; Dottie Maitland of Maitland & Associates, Inc.; Mary Jane Ferguson of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and Chris Howell of the Lewis & Clark Trail Heritage Foundation.
