Cosmetic Dentures Becoming a Lost Art According to Lake County, Illinois Dentist.

March 18, 2008

Dentures were once the standard or care for older Americans. Today, implants and reconstruction are common but patients desiring cosmetic dentures are hard pressed to find qualified dentists.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) March 18, 2008 -- Denture care was once a commonly accepted outcome to a lifetime of dental disease. Today most patients expect to keep their teeth a lifetime. If you already have dentures you may find yourself in a world where most dentists rarely make dentures and are uncomfortable with the process. Economy denture clinics are fairly common but finding a doctor who practices esthetic dentistry for denture patients can be very difficult.

Dr Ira L Shapira and Dr Mark J Amidei in Gurnee, Illinois understand that patients who are wearing dentures want the same esthetic and cosmetic dental options that patients with their own teeth desire. Drs Shapira and Amidei are pleased to offer cosmetic dentures with or without the use of implants that restore natural facial form and contours. They understand that the same principles of physiologic dentistry apply to patients who no longer have their own teeth. A dental facelift, is the term that describes the support given to the soft tissues of the face by prosthetic replacement of lost support. Dental facelifts can often make patients look younger, healthier and more vital.

Anyone who has watched crime investigation shows know that the look of the face can be reconstructed from facial bones. What many people do not understand is that a properly constructed dentures can restore facial feaures in a way that plastic surgery can not.

Cosmetic dentures are not a one day job but rather a work of art that allows patients to work with their doctor to determine the proper shape and position of the teeth and denture base to restore the proper facial support. Cosmetic dentures often use neuromuscular dental techniques to correct muscle physiology, vertical dimension, and temporomandibular joint position to more ideal standards.

Snoring and Sleep apnea are common among older patients who wear dentures. It was once common to tell patients to remove their dentures at night. Newer research has shown that dentures help patients maintain a functioning airway when they sleep and removal of dentures can lead to airway collapse. It is now suggested that denture patients wear their dentures when they sleep. Dental implants can be used to prevent bone loss under a patients denture.

Cosmetic alternatives for patients who wear dentures are available but they often involve considerably more time, cost and effort than economy dentures. Appearance is a personal statement and Cosmetic Detures like high end clothes or jewelery are matched to the individuals who wear them.

Drs Shapira and Amidei practice in Gurnee, Illinois and provide cosmetic denture services in Lake County, Illinois. They treat patients from Gurnee, Lake Forest, Barrington, Highland Park, Libertyville and Deerfield. They provide cosmetic denture services with or without implants and treatment of sleep apnea and snoring.

Dr Shapira is well known for his treatment of sleep disorders including sleep apnea and snoring. He is a former assistant professor at Rush Medical School where he did research in the relation of neuromuscular jaw position to sleep apnea in the 1980's and treated patients in the 1990's until early this century. He was a frequent lecturer at the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M) and now teaches dentists from around the U.S. treatment techniques for sleep apnea and snoring with comfortable oral appliances instead of CPAP. CPAP is the gold standard of treatment for sleep apnea but only 23-45% of patients tolerate CPAP and use it on a regular basis.

Dr Shapira is a charter and credentialed member of the Sleep Disorder Dental Society which became the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, A Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine, a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the National Sleep Foundation, the Dental Editor of Sleep and Health Journal, a Diplomate of the American Academy of Pain Management, and a Founding member of DOSA, the Dental Organization for Sleep Apnea.
