United Kingdom of Great Britain & N. Ireland (Press Release) March 20, 2008 --
There is a news release about eBay launching its own affiliate network services. The online retails giant eBay has revolutionized the practice of buying and selling on the Internet. The affiliate marketing service for eBay was provided by yet another market player ValueClick. However, the company has resolved to go ahead with its own partner network.
ValueClick, as it will lose the best client, business is going to suffer a lot. The NASDAQ figures have already confirmed the impact. It would be worth watching as how ValueClick goes for the damage control and what new strategies they are going to adopt.
In the least few years affiliate networks have been the centre of attraction. Every now and there are mergers and acquisitions, the news about launching of an affiliate venture.
Affiliate networks and online advertising networks are more inclined towards each other. In most cases online advertisers do have some hand in affiliate marketing networks and services. It is a global phenomenon now and very people would deny the indulgence of online and offline media conglomerations in affiliate marketing and online promotions.
In the beginning, the split might hurt the interests of both. But it would be ValueClick at the receiving end. There have been no reports as how ValueClick has responded and if they were aware of such a move.
With ValueClick deposed of its status, eBay’s Partner Network might be a threat itself. The company enjoys the credibility in the market and the services cannot be pointed as something less than what eBay already offers. The situation is a little complicate and needs some time to settle the things both for ValueClick as well as eBay.
At the same time affiliate networks have one more player participating the race. The simplicity that has been the benchmark for eBay may be a defining point for eBay. We are yet to say as how well the partner network performs.
