Kids Wish Network Enlists Redesign Etc in Wish-Come-True Project for Chronically Ill Houston Teen

March 20, 2008

Group of generous merchants band together to fulfill wish of 16-year old girl stricken with Sickle-Cell disease.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) March 20, 2008 -- Houston, Texas: March 17, 2008 ― Redesign Etc, provider of home staging and real estate redesign services for the Houston–Galveston Bay area, was recently chosen by Florida-based KIDS WISH NETWORK, to spearhead a wish-come-true project focusing on a special 16-year old Houston girl stricken with Sickle-cell disease.

Gabby, as she likes to be called, has suffered with Sickle-cell disease since birth. Sickle-cell disease is a blood disorder characterized by red blood cells that assume an abnormal, rigid, sickle shape. This abnormality decreases the cells' flexibility and results in restricted movement through blood vessels, depriving downstream tissues of oxygen. The disease is chronic and lifelong. Gabby has been in and out of the hospital much of her young life and requires pain medication intravenously for pain management.

Gabby’s mother, Janet, recently learned about KIDS WISH NETWORK, a nationally recognized charitable organization dedicated to infusing hope, creating happy memories, and improving the quality of life for children. Wanting to do something extra-special for Gabby, Janet applied and was soon notified of Gabby’s acceptance. It wasn’t hard for Gabby to decide what she wanted most for her wish: she wanted a bedroom makeover. And she had a particular theme in mind: Betty Boop!

Jill Atchison, Wish Coordinator of the KIDS WISH NETWORK in Florida, promptly called upon the expertise of Cindy Bryant, owner of Redesign Etc, to manage the on-site logistics and oversee the actual project fulfillment in Houston. With emphasis on the Betty Boop theme, generous merchants donated a wide range of furniture and decorative accessories which Cindy utilized in the professional staging of Gabby’s bedroom.

Contributors include: Bennett Taylor, a talented muralist from Elements by Taylor, graciously produced a hanging 4′ X 4′ “Betty” wall mural in addition to assembling products and providing a pickup service. Christine of Four Hands Furniture (Austin) donated a queen sized four poster bed, two end tables and lamps. John Racine, with We're Here To There delivered and set up the furniture from Austin. Turbo of Bi-Rite Furniture (Houston) provided a dresser and mirror. Reyes Ortiz, with Ultimate Comfort, donated a queen pillow top mattress and box spring. Randall’s Limo Service provided transportation for Gabby and her mom to get them out of the house while Cindy was working her magic on Gabby’s bedroom.

The limo outing took Gabby and her mom to the Westpark Wal-Mart where the Assistant Manager, Terry Lazar, had a Flat Screen TV waiting for Gabby. After a nice lunch at Olive Garden, Gabby and her mom were escorted back home for the “Grand Unveiling”. To simply say that Gabby was one happy young lady would be a major understatement. With her special wish now a reality, Gabby is excited about having her friends and loved ones come over to check out her new Betty Boop bedroom.
