United States of America (Press Release) March 21, 2008 --
Philadelphia, PA - March 21, 2008 - Brooklyn's own lyricist and science fiction writer "Will Fisk"has announced the birth of his newest project - Anansi Magazine. Anansi Magazine is a graphic magazine, much more than the average comic book. With a sleek glossy style and cover, Anansi is the grown up fantasy magazine that perfectly depicts life in the URBANI world.
"What is Urbani (pronounced er-bah-nee)? Urbani is the culture of Black graphic storytelling, Black Science Fiction and Urban Fantasy. It is a lifestyle based around the ancient art of the visual story. Black people of the world have been telling stories in visual form since the beginning of time. From the heiroglyphs of Ancient Kemet to the graffiti art of the South Bronx, Black people have been telling their visual stories to teach lessons, give insight into life, show truths of the spiritual world and tell tales of great heroes and diabolical villians. Black people have painted pictures of drama, action, suspense, sorrow, love, vengeance, humor, mystery and fantasy since the beginning of time. This magazine is the beginning of a culture, a way of life for the modern-day visual griot and those that enjoy a good story that reflects the deepest and most outrageous levels of imagination of those living the hip-hop lifestyle. Now the element of hip-hop culture known as graffiti can expand itself even further. The graffiti artist, the urban visual artist, the emcee, the street poet, the Black writer and the lover of stories told from the this unique perspective can unite for the creation of a new culture, a new lifestyle. This new way of life is called Urbani!" - Will Fisk
Will Fisk has joined forces with Akin B. Ware, Artist Management Consultant and CEO of Karismatic LLC. Ware has partnered with Fisk as the publisher of the magazine in hopes of redefining the comic community. "Right now the American comic book industry is imperalistic. What you have is the American viewpoint being transmitted over the world. We call this the Magazine of the URBANI world because we plan on having viewpoints and perspectives from all over the world."
Ware believes that a boom in the popularity of this style is on the way and is about to exploded across the United States and all over the world. What Anansi Magazine aims to provide is what he describes as "a new outlet for all of this creativity to hit the market place without the creators compromising themselves."
Will Fisk and Akin B. Ware have began to form a dynamic team of artists, illustrators, pencilists, and writers. Both have a strong background in promotions and marketing and will be utilizing their skills to effectively promote the Magazine worldwide. Plans for Promotional Events in collaboration with Hip Hop artists and models, popular nightlife spots, clothing and products are being considered as a part of the Marketing Strategy. Sponsoring Companies will be cross marketed and promoted with the Magazine and Advertising space will be available for companies who wish to broaden their target markets.
