International Schools Island is a new location in Second Life ... the 3D online virtual world.
The island (isi) is designed to provide:
- an environment for educators to run continuing professional development (cpd) events
- access to in world applications to support cpd (e.g. display boards)
- support to allow educators to communicate and share
- a portal for curriculum teachers to find materials more easily in S.L. (Curriculum Tower)
- an area to find links, resources and tutorials related to technology and ICT (Technology Tower)
- an area to find links, resources and tutorials related to information literacy and fluency (Information Tower)
- opportunities for international school to advertise their school and add to their marketing policies (Avenue of Schools)
- opportunities for suppliers (A.V. and Publishers) to advertise (Suppliers Pavilion)
- opportunities for teacher and school professional organisations and associations to share and raise their profile (Professional Village)
- opportunities related to teachers recruitment (Recruitment Hillside)
- an Environmental Literacy area (Rainforest)
- an opportunity teacher support groups (many self sustaining) to have a home in S.L.
- an opportunity for educators, supporters and those related to education to rent land
- some fun
Although the above is primarily focussed on k-12 educators in international schools it is expected to be of practical support to educators worldwide from many different T&L establishments
