Detroit, MI, March 25, 2008 -- For most Canadians, Feb. 17, 2009 will just mark another day, but for those who pick up their television signals over the air from nearby American stations, it could be the day of blank TV screens.

On the day that U.S. broadcasters officially convert to digital transmission and shut down analog transmitters for good, Canadians with satellite TV, cable services, or newer TV sets with digital tuners. It will be those who regularly watch U.S. stations with rabbit ears or outside antennas who will notice the difference.

Global HD (www.globalhdllc.com), a consumer electronics company in Detroit, Michigan, wants to make sure that its Canadian neighbors will not have to go without getting both analog and digital signals when the United States pulls the plug on analog signals next year.

“We are aware of the fact that many of our Canadian neighbors, especially those in cities bordering the United States will be affected by the change from analog to digital signals,” said Ed Dortch of Global HD.

Global HD, which sells high definition consumer electronics, offers several digital TV converter boxes. Among the most popular is a Digital Stream TV Tuner Converter Box because it will allow analog signals from Canadian broadcasters and digital signals from American stations to go through one box.

By having a box with a pass-through system, the Canadian analog signal goes through the box and is converted to a more enhanced analog signal. The digital signal from the U.S. also goes through the box and is converted into an enhanced analog signal. Simply put: One box takes both signals automatically. No need to unplug the set, buy extra wires or use additional switches to view digital and analog stations.

The pass-through converter box also will benefit residents in rural and low-broadcast areas that receive both signals.

Canada’s Office of Consumer Affairs is alerting citizens that after Aug. 31, 2011, all analog televisions will require a converter box in order to receive Canadian over-the-air broadcasts using an antenna. At that time, all over-the-air broadcast signals in Canada will be in digital-only format.

“Although Canada will make the switch in 2011, that won’t help those TV viewers who enjoy daily broadcasts from American cities such as Detroit,” Dortch said.
Global HD is an online store for consumer electronic products including speaker systems, televisions, DVD players, DTV converter boxes and video and audio accessories.
