United States of America (Press Release) March 27, 2008 --
Fort Lauderdale, FL- In what was billed as the first ever divorce party
in South Florida, authors Christina Rowe and Rosalind Sedacca played hosts to the largest divorce party in the U.S. Four hundred divorced men and women from South Florida gathered on March 7th, 2008 at Christopher’s
nightclub.
They danced to breakup songs like “I Will Survive” and ‘Love
is a Battlefield” on a dance floor that featured a black wedding cake and heart-shaped balloons crossed with a bandage. The drink of the night was “marriage on the rocks.”
The evening was sparked by several tongue-in-cheek, zany fun games including attendees throwing fake gold wedding rings into a real toilet while the song “Love Stinks” played in the background. There were also several contests, such as the “Worst Ex in South Florida” and The “Happy Divorce,” in which those who showed up with their ex received prizes. “I was surprised that several divorced couples actually came to the party together. It was great to see some amicable divorces instead of the typical bitter ones,” says Christina Rowe, author of Seven Secrets to a Successful Divorce, “and we encourage that.”
“While many people at the divorce party had been divorced for a while, others mentioned they were going out for the first time since they got divorced,” says Rosalind Sedacca, author of How Do I Tell the Kids about the Divorce? “The message of the party was to celebrate new beginnings, laugh, let go and move on. The party provided guests with a safe environment to mark the end of their marriages with a ritual so they can begin a new chapter in their life with new confidence.”
The party was so successful the authors are throwing another one on April 4th due to popular demand. “People have been emailing me asking when the next divorce party is going to take place. They had so much fun they wanted us to do it again” says Christina Rowe. “And everyone is encouraged to bring their friends along with their sense of humor.” The party is sponsored by Divorce Magazine and co-sponsored by Annie the Matchmaker"
of Life Works Matchmaking at www.lifeworksmatchmaking.com
Both authors promise more prizes, contests and valuable goodie bags for all
who attend. The Divorce Party starts at 9:00 p.m.at Christopher's Nightclub in Fort Lauderdale and features free drinks for ladies and other drink specials from 9:30 to 11:30. Admission is $10 at the door and $8 for those registered on the VIP guest list at: www.secretsofdivorce.com/divorceparty.html.
