Governor Matt Blunt signed a proclomation (drafted and submitted to the governor's office by Randy Boude of Signed Entertainment Enterprises) officially declaring April 2008 to be "Missouri Deaf and Hard of Hearing Awareness Month". In his proclamation, the Governor specifically cited the stated intentions of the collective business community of Branson, Missouri to become certified as the first official Deaf Friendly city in Missouri and, in fact, the entire United States! The White House Theatre and the Magnificent 7 show were the first on board. Soon after came The Hotel Grand Victorian, and the newest members of this cutting edge group will be The Mansion Theatre, The Promise show, and the Celebrate America show. "I'm very proud of what we are doing, and we couldn't have started with a better city." said Randy, "Although we are getting requests from other cities like Las Vegas, and even as far away as Australia, we plan on getting the job done here first."
The ceremony in Governor Blunt's office will take place at 10:00 am on April 9th, 2008. "This is just the first step to equal access for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community" said Randy.
Most people don't realize that there are over 200,000 Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Missouri alone, and an estimated 25 million across the US.
Come on, Branson business community, "Show Us" the way!
