Although probably the theme park capital of the world, a vacation in Orlando, Florida does not mean these are the only attractions to keep visitors amused. A visitor will never be left feeling bored in Orlando with a huge range of cultural places to visit, shopping malls and 'non-theme park' attractions. The city has been attracting tourists for a long time and justifiably so as it has just about everything the visitor could want.
As one of the most tourist centered cities in the world, Orlando a great deal to offer including large shopping malls, restaurants of every type, night clubs, bars and many specialist shops. An Orlando vacation is a destination that offers a wide range of attractions perfect for adults and children of all ages.
The Central Florida Zoo for instance only opened back in 1975 and was owned by the Sanford Fire Department prior to that but is now the home to over four hundred animals. Privately owned, this zoo is also a botanical garden run by a charitable group whose purpose is to protect native and endangered species around the world.
Then there are the works of Louis Tiffany whose famous collection is housed here in the Morse Museum of American Art. This collection comprises Tiffany art glass, clayware and ornaments plus the chapel interior designed for the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893.
Surprisingly, Orlando is not just about fun for the children because adults are very well catered for in this entertainment town. For people that prefer the night, the list of things to do on an Orlando vacation is almost endless with families, teenagers and adults all well looked after.
Another popular attraction is the Orlando Science Center and is in fact one of the largest buildings of its type allowing the visitor access to ten huge exhibition halls. For lovers of anything relating to trains and trolleys, there is the International Trolley and Train Museum which has fourteen model trains running through the building which actually houses a waterfall.
For something a little different there's the Titanic Exhibition which tells the story of the ill fated Ocean Liner performed by a character from the ship; the displays contain some original salvaged items and at times the tour is very moving. Of course if you prefer something more relaxing then you should visit Lake Eola Park, situated in the heart of downtown; this is the city's main attraction with 43 acres of beautiful sidewalks and a boating lake.
However, there aren't that many visitors who visit Orlando without a trip to one of the four main Disney theme parks or the equally impressive Universal studios; where a person's age really doesn't matter. If you are on you first Orlando vacation, try to visit all the major attractions first because it is almost certain you will return again another year.
